How Much Does a Honeymoon Cost?
Honeymoon costs range enormously โ from a modest few thousand dollars for a nearby beach week to $10,000+ for a long-haul luxury trip โ because the total is entirely built from your choices: destination, length, accommodation level, and activities. Rather than guess at an average, the smart approach is to build your budget from the actual components and turn it into a monthly savings target. This calculator does exactly that, breaking your honeymoon into flights, accommodation, food, activities, and transport, then adding the buffer honeymoons always seem to need.
How the Budget Is Built
Food = Daily Food Budget ร Nights
Total = Flights + Accommodation + Food + Activities + Transport
Recommended = Total ร 1.10 (10% buffer)
Breaking it down this way shows where the money actually goes โ and where you have leverage. For most honeymoons, flights and accommodation together make up well over half the budget, which means they're also where the biggest savings live: shifting dates by a week or choosing a four-star over a five-star hotel moves the total far more than cutting a dinner or two.
How to Use This Calculator
Enter your number of nights and travellers, then fill in each cost: total flights, accommodation per night, daily food and drink, total activities, and local transport. Add how many months you have to save. You'll get your full total, a category breakdown, cost per day and per person, a 10% buffer figure, and โ crucially โ the amount to set aside each month to have it all saved before you leave. Adjust any input to see instantly how a cheaper hotel or a shorter trip changes the monthly commitment.
Worked Example
A couple plans 10 nights with $2,400 in flights, $250/night accommodation ($2,500), $150/day food ($1,500), $800 in activities, and $300 in transport โ a total of $7,500, about $682 per day. Adding a 10% buffer brings it to $8,250, and saving over 8 months means about $1,031 a month. Seeing that monthly figure early lets them decide consciously: keep the plan, trim to 7 nights, or choose a closer destination to bring the monthly saving down.
How to Save on Your Honeymoon
- Travel just after peak season (shoulder season) for lower prices and thinner crowds โ often the sweet spot for honeymoons
- Set up a honeymoon fund as your wedding registry โ many guests happily contribute experiences instead of gifts
- Be flexible on dates and airports: mid-week flights and nearby airports can cut airfare substantially
- Mention it's your honeymoon when booking โ hotels frequently offer free upgrades, late checkout, or extras
- Split a big trip: a few luxury nights plus several mid-range nights costs far less than luxury throughout
