The Mahr Calculator splits a declared mahr amount into the portion paid now and the deferred portion. It preserves the currency label you enter and performs no currency conversion.
Formula
The paid-now amount must be between zero and the total amount. Both values may be zero, but the total cannot be negative.
Worked example
For total mahr of 10,000 USD with 3,000 USD paid now:
- Total: $10,000.
- Paid now: $3,000.
- Deferred:
$10,000 - $3,000 = $7,000.
Questions
Does this decide the religious amount of mahr?
No. It only divides values supplied by the user. Religious, contractual, and local legal requirements require qualified advice.
Does it convert currencies?
No. The currency field is a display label only.
Can paid now exceed the total?
No. The calculator returns an error when the paid-now amount exceeds the declared total.
Limitations
The tool does not address timing, enforceability, inflation, assets instead of cash, or jurisdiction-specific marriage contracts.
