YouTube RPM Calculator
Work out your true RPM from real earnings and views โ or convert advertiser CPM into the RPM you actually take home.
Two modes: calculate RPM from your Studio earnings, or estimate RPM from a known CPM after YouTube's 45% share.
What Is YouTube RPM?
RPM โ revenue per mille (per thousand) โ is the amount you actually earn for every 1,000 views on your channel, across all your income sources reported by YouTube, after the platform takes its share. It's the single most important number for understanding your YouTube earnings, and it's the figure YouTube Studio shows you. If your channel earned $480 from 120,000 views, your RPM is $4.00. This calculator finds your true RPM from real numbers, or converts an advertiser CPM into the RPM you'd take home.
RPM vs CPM: Don't Confuse Them
RPM from CPM = CPM ร 0.55 ร Monetized Playback Rate
(0.55 = your 55% creator share; YouTube keeps 45%)
CPM is an advertiser-side metric: cost per 1,000 ad impressions, before anything is deducted. RPM is your metric: revenue per 1,000 video views after YouTube's 45% cut and after the reality that not every view shows an ad. A $12 CPM with a 60% monetized playback rate becomes an RPM of just $12 ร 0.55 ร 0.60 = $3.96. Chasing a high CPM means little if your RPM stays low.
How to Use This Calculator
Mode 1 (earnings โ RPM): the most accurate โ enter your total revenue and views for any period from YouTube Studio and get your exact RPM, plus what that means per 100k and per 1M views. Mode 2 (CPM โ RPM): useful before you're monetized or for modelling โ enter an advertiser CPM and your expected monetized playback rate to estimate the RPM you'd actually keep. Switch modes with the dropdown; the fields change to match.
What's a Good YouTube RPM?
- $8+ RPM: excellent โ typical of finance, business, or a heavily US/UK/AU/Canada audience
- $3โ$8 RPM: solid and healthy, around or above the cross-channel average
- Under $3 RPM: common for gaming, music, entertainment, or audiences in lower-CPM regions
- The all-channel blended average tends to sit near $2โ$5, but niche and audience geography move it enormously
Worked Example
A tech channel earned $480 from 120,000 views last month: RPM = ($480 รท 120,000) ร 1,000 = $4.00. That means every 100,000 views is worth about $400, and a viral million-view video would earn roughly $4,000. If the creator lengthened videos past 8 minutes to enable mid-roll ads and nudged RPM to $5.50, that same million-view video jumps to $5,500 โ a 38% raise with no extra views.
How to Increase Your RPM
- Make videos 8+ minutes so you can run mid-roll ads โ often the single fastest RPM lift
- Lean into higher-CPM topics where they fit your channel โ a finance angle on a lifestyle channel can multiply RPM
- Grow your US, UK, Canada, and Australia audience share โ geography is one of the biggest RPM factors
- Keep content advertiser-friendly to avoid limited-ads yellow icons that gut earnings
- Publish into Q4 when advertiser budgets peak, and expect a January dip
