Reading Time Calculator

The Reading Time Calculator estimates how long pasted text takes to read at a chosen words-per-minute rate. It returns minutes, seconds, word count, and character counts with and without spaces.

The default speed is 200 WPM and the form accepts 1 to 2,000 WPM.

Example

For 600 words at 200 WPM, reading time is 600 / 200 = 3 minutes. A shorter passage can produce a result such as 1 minute 30 seconds.

Questions

What WPM should I choose?

Use a speed that matches your audience. Technical, unfamiliar, or accessibility-focused reading may be slower than a general estimate.

Are words counted linguistically?

No. The module splits trimmed text on whitespace, so punctuation and hyphenation follow its simple text rules.

Does this include images and code?

Only visible pasted text is counted. Image content and non-text reading effort are not modeled.

Limitations

Reading time is an estimate based on word count and a fixed speed. It does not measure comprehension, skimming, pauses, or media content.
